Damon, Elena, Stefan head to prom in "Pictures of You"

And so the night begins...

The episode opens up with Bonnie (Kat Graham) visiting Jeremy’s grave and crying. “Hey, Jeremy. You know, I was thinking about the last thing I said to you. ‘We did it.’ Totally lame last thing to say to someone. That wasn’t a goodbye Jeremy. You were supposed to come back.” Suddenly, she hears someone call her name and she turns around to find Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen). However, it’s not a romantic moment. He yells at her to wake up and open her eyes and finds herself asleep on the sofa and her house is on fire. She uses her witch powers to extinguish the flames but looks distressed.

That wasn't a goodbye, Jeremy."You were supposed to come back with us."
The scene flashes to the Salvatore brothers tossing a football back and forth and talking about distributing the cure to Elena without instigating her to commit mass murder. “You lost count of consecutive days in which Elena Gilbert hasn’t killed anyone? I’d say that’s progress buddy,” Damon (Ian Somerhalder) jokes. Then he grows sullen when Stefan (Paul Wesley) suggests making her want the cure. “Yea. How are you going to make an emotionless vampire want anything?” Damon inquires. The two brothers plot about how to get Elena’s humanity back and they decide to bombard her with emotions.

The Salvatores aren’t the only family in town facing a conundrum. Back at the Mikaelson manor, Rebekah (Claire Holt) is trying to build a case for why being a human rocks. “Elijah, being human means a fresh start. I can grow old and have a family and fill my days with meaning knowing that each one matters.” “Well that was poetic,” Klaus (Joseph Morgan) says with a hearty laugh. Elijah (Daniel Gillies) asks his younger brother to present his case for wanting the cure. And because he’s as grand an orator as Homer himself, Klaus reveals that Silas can get inside anyone’s head and manipulate thoughts (including his), and that he won’t stop tormenting Klaus until he gives him the cure. Throughout Klaus’s argument, Rebekah keeps interjecting with information about Silas’s mission including how he wants to tear down the veil between the dead and the living.

Family reunion!

“He will open the floodgates for every supernatural being that’s ever died,” she reveals. Klaus dismisses her rebuttal and tries to appeal to Elijah’s weakness for romance, “He wants to reunite with his lost soulmate. You of all lovesick fools should applaud his devotion.” He also mentions how Kol and Finn will be back but Rebekah calls him out on that part because Klaus hated Finn and kept Kol daggered in a box for most of his existence. “Your personal discomfort may not be sufficient reason for putting the entire world at jeopardy, Klaus,” Elijah comments. “I think our sister deserves a shot at happiness. Klaus’s cute little dimples vanish and are replaced by stormy disbelief. He utters, “Tell me you’re joking. Tell me you’re not fating me to an eternity of torture.” “I made my decision,” Elijah confirms as Rebekah tries to conceal her smug smirk.

Klaus then leans over (quite dramatically) and whispers into Rebekah’s ear, “When you’re sick and dying and begging for my blood, I will laugh in your face and compel you to forget me.” He hurries out of the room and Rebekah asks Elijah for the cure. He sighs and says, “Rebekah, it’s no secret that you’re impulsive, emotional and, at times, morally questionable. Prove to me this isn’t just another one of your whims — that you know precisely what you’re giving up here.” He then asks her to give up her vampire privileges and act like a human for just one day. This means no strength, speed, or compulsion can be used. If she can manage this, the cure is hers.
