When it comes to fancy events, the residents of Mystic Falls love to trade in their skinny jeans, scarves, and leather jackets for something a little more upscale. Tuxedos, suits, and glamorous dresses all the way, baby! And although The Vampire Diaries Season 4 Episode 19 synopsis confirms that TVD’s senior prom will hit some major snags due to Elena’s humanity switch being turned off and the Salvatore brothers crashing the event to keep tabs on the untamed brunette beauty, we can still appreciate all the shimmery gown that will soon be donned at this milestone dance!

Thankfully, Entertainment Weekly chatted with TVD costumer designer Leigh Leverett to get the behind-the-scenes scoop on how she chose each character’s picture-perfect gown and to offer tips on how to recreate the enchanting looks from that night. Find out more details about Rebekah, Elena, Bonnie, and Caroline’s enchanting styles, then vote for your favorite look in the comments!

With its abstract pink print, strapless sweetheart neckline, pleated bodice, and A-line skirt, Elena's silk gown by Theia is simultaneously traditional and edgy. It's a contemporary spin to the standard prom silhouette and the perfect way to capture Elena's classic beauty as well as her new wild girl streak. (Literally. She has highlights in her hair that match her dress color.)

TVD costume designer Leigh Leverett shared the following anecdote about ordering the dress for the character with EW: “We called it the ‘watercolor’ dress. I thought it was really pretty, but I wasn’t sure it if would work. It has a lot of volume, it’s your quintessential prom dress, and sometimes on this show we go for sexier rather than for [larger] amounts of fabric. But [Nina] put it on and it was really beautiful.”

Cost: $1,495

Rebekah Mikaelson

All Rebekah wants to do is attend one official gala and, even though Stefan sort of made her wish come true with their 1980s Decade Dance date after Mayor Rudy Hopkins canceled it, it looks like Barbie Klaus' majestic high school experience will happen at senior prom. And it seems like her bright Jolene gown is a clear indicator of her hope and optimism to cross that burning desire off her bucket list!

According to the show's costume designer, “The [Jolene number] felt like the big, yellow, quintessential prom dress, [which] worked perfectly for her.”

Cost: $360

Bonnie Bennett

Right off the bat, Bonnie's dress doesn't strike you as much as Elena's and Rebekah's do. With its navy blue color and lack of shimmery, this sophisticated piece by Theia is definitely on the simpler side at first glance. However, it actually boasts an intricate design that we're smitten with! The strapless sweetheart dress features layered tiers of ruffled silk organza imported from Italy, a ruched bodice, and a concealed side zip. It's midnight blue hue is stunning and enchanting -- the perfect color for a powerful Mystic Falls witch!

TVD's costume designer hints that the gown is just right for Bonnie because she's going to have a pretty hectic evening: “A lot of the really hardcore, emotional stuff is happening to [Bonnie] this season, and a lot of it happens at the prom." Leigh Leverett adds, "She does a lot of walking around, with purpose, so we wanted it to be really pretty [as she moved].”

Cost: $795

Caroline Forbes

Get the Look: Caroline's Dress

Caroline is wearing a long gown with a mermaid skirt from Sherri Hill. The ivory/nude dress features crossing beaded lines and jeweled accents.

“I was trying to find something vintage-looking but one that was still new,” TVD costume designer Leigh Leverett told EW, “I tend to go a little more feminine [with Caroline]… She’s into the glamour of everything.”

Cost: $898
